BILL GATES BECOMES THE
BIG FARMER OF USA
The latest news is that Bill Gates, the Sultan of Microsoft, has now become the Sultan of Agriculture in the USA.
He now owns 275,000 acres of farmland spread across 19 states in the USA.
This leads to thoughts about the entry of great people, big people, rich people, or billionaires into agriculture.
We need to think about this very seriously. Normally, big people purchase farmland for the purpose of investment. They are not very serious about agriculture and production. This may lead to absentee landlordism.
Here, I can quote the existing pattern or the status of agriculture in India. The major share of agricultural production in India comes only from small and marginal farmers. Nearly 83% to 85% of the farming community in India consists of small and marginal farmers. The production from the farmlands of medium and large farmers is not significant.
In India, we are depending only on manual laborers for agricultural activities. The small and marginal farmers are managing with their household family members for carrying out agricultural operations.
Whereas the medium and large farmers are finding it very difficult to manage laborers for their agricultural activities.
Also, mechanization is not that much developed in India compared to China, Japan, or the USA. Under this situation, we need to depend only on small and marginal farmers in India.
Globally speaking, only four countries are considered major agricultural countries: India, China, the USA, and Brazil.
While comparing the geographical area with the other three countries, India is the smallest one. However, when it comes to agricultural land area, India leads all the other big countries.
In the present
scenario, China actually leads in agricultural production, and India stands in
second or third position. There is every possibility that India can lead all
other countries in the future, considering its entry into AI and mechanization
in agriculture.INDIAN FARMING WITH FAMILY LABOUR
So we need to think about this: Is the entry of big people or billionaires into agriculture good or bad?
As an observer, I request you all to tell me what will happen in the future of agriculture with the entry of Microsoft Sultan Bill Gates and other allied billionaires.
